GETTING INVOLVED!

So you have an idea what you want to do?  Good!

Then come along to the SCA office for an informal interview and to ask all those questions you have!

HANG ON….

It will save some time if you bring a few things with you.

We need to do a few checks to make sure that you are suitable to work with vulnerable people.  These checks include taking up character references for you and making sure that you do not have any relevant criminal convictions.  It’s not difficult or scary, but the checks can take a while, so don’t delay in coming into the office.

Criminal Records Bureau Disclosures (CRB’s)

Generally you will need to bring in three forms of ID.

They should include at least one of the following, Passport, Driving Licence / Provisional Driving Licence (UK), Birth Certificate (UK) or a European Identity Card.   (If you don’t have one of these, please contact the SCA office)

You will also need to provide proof of your current address (i.e. where you are living in Cambridge) such as a College bill, NHS card, bank statement, tenancy agreement or TV Licence.

Finally you will need to supply one further form of identity such as Insurance certificate, utility bill or bank statement.

A full list of acceptable identity documents is available from the SCA office.

Already have a CRB certificate?

Due to the risks involved SCA is unable to accept previously issued CRB disclosures.

References

We need the names and addresses of two people who we can write to for a character reference.  They must known you for at least two years and cannot be related to you, or from your peer group.

ID Cards

Finally we need you to bring in a passport-sized photo for your SCA ID card.  These are compulsory and you may be asked to show it when you begin working on the project.

PLEASE NOTE: Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from volunteering. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of your offences.
