We have plenty of SCA...
Not everyone has time to commit to being a regular weekly meetings. If you're one of those people, maybe you have enough time to help out with various one off events that take place in Cambridge.
The opportunities are listed chronologically.
If you're interested, please e-mail mail@cambridgesca.org.uk for more information.
24th October – 4th November, venues across Cambridge
The Festival of Ideas is a celebration of the arts, humanities and social sciences, offering a broad range of talks and hands on activities from 24 October – 4 November. Volunteers will be able to watch most of the events they assist, and will be indispensable in delivering over 170 free events in two weeks!
We will need volunteers throughout the Festival for evening talks, and particularly for the biggest, busiest day of the Festival, Saturday 27 October. You can learn more about the events on offer by browsing the attached programme or visiting www.cam.ac.uk/festivalofideas
If you would like to volunteer, please fill in this form: http://www.cambridgesca.org.uk/festival-of-ideas-signup
Friday, 26th of October, 10am - 2pm, meet at the SCA office
Halloween is not that far away. It's time to dress up as witches, ghosts, vampires and other appropriately scary creatures.
It's time to haunt the town centre!
Collection buckets in hand, you will be sent off in groups to wander round town and fundraise money for SCA. Last year we raised £232.81. Only with your help we can beat this!
You can either come dressed up or change in the office. We may be able to provide an outfit or two, but it would be much better if you brought your own costume.
To sign up, please fill in this form: http://www.cambridgesca.org.uk/halloween-raid
Monday, 5th of November, 6:30pm - 8:30pm, Midsummer Common
Volunteers are needed for the bucket collection on Bonfire Night.
Students would need to report to the Common at 6.30pm and would be finished by 8.30pm.
It would be convenient for the organisers if you arrived in groups of two or three so that you are collecting in the group. So encourage your friends to help out too! Freshers, this is a good opportunity to get to know your classmates and college mates a bit better! If you can't find anyone to come with you, don't worry, you won't be the only one - you will be assigned a 'buddy' on-site.
Last year we had a great turnout which reflected in the final collection. Proceeds from the collection go towards funding the firework display and the organisers will make a donation to SCA.
There will be FREE CHOCOLATE to all volunteers who show up on the night.
To sign up, please fill in this form: http://www.cambridgesca.org.uk/bonfire-night-collection
week beginning 5th of November, Pendragon Primary in Papworth
The message below comes from the deputy head of the school:
I am writing in hope that you will be able to support our school (Pendragon Primary in Papworth) in it’s pursuit of engaging our pupils actively in the writing process, inspiring them to write and seeing writing as a valued life-long skill.
During the week of the 5th November it is writing week in school and we are hoping to organise for ‘real writers’ to come into school and talk to the pupils about the purpose of writing in their job/role. This would involve talking to one class or a couple of classes in turn and answering their questions.
Do you think you could help with this? We are happy to have any support but would especially appreciate male volunteers because our boys need to see men valuing writing.
Thank you in advance.
Ben
Papworth is a bus ride away, the journey takes about half an hour one way. This is a perfect way to explore Cambridgeshire and motivate young children at the same time.
